Idaho Panhandle National Forest Current and Recent Projects

Under Analysis

  • Chloride Gold

    Project will be designed to improve ecological/social conditions, including but not limited to improved forest health, reduced potential for high-intensity wildfires, improved watershed conditions, and sustainable recreation opportunities.

  • Katkee Fuels

    Reduce hazardous fuels and address the concerns of our communities and partners; the IPNF is considering activities that will create fuel breaks along private land, infrastructure, and egress routes adjacent to priority firesheds.

  • Lacy Lemoosh

    Vegetation management activities, including timber harvest, road construction, prescribed burning and tree planting.

  • Lindstrom

    Improve forest health by increasing desirable species, provide structure diversity, reduce tree density. Minimize impacts from oads to water and wildlife. Provide timber products for local economy.

  • Little Guard Lookout Restoration Project

    This project proposal is to address and complete recommended restorations and repairs to the Little Guard Lookout and Recreation Rental Cabin.

  • Magee Cabin Vault Restroom Installation Project

    The project proposes constructing a new vault toilet structure adjacent to the Magee Recreation Rental Cabin and decommission the existing septic system.

  • Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail Comprehensive Plan

    The Comprehensive Plan will develop administrative and management goals, objectives and practices for public lands in Forest Service Regions 1 and Regions 6.

  • Shoshone Park Restroom Replacement

    This project proposes to install two double stall vault toilets at Shoshone Park to replace deteriorating vault toilets, improve accessibility and decommission existing cesspools.

  • Young Stand Improvement

    Address the critical need for young stand management and associated fuels treatments across public lands by conducting regular treatments in areas where young stand regeneration has been established.

Analysis Completed

  • Kaniksu Over-snow Vehicle Travel Plan

    Designate trails and areas for over-snow vehicle use on the three northern ranger districts (Kaniksu Unit) of the IPNF.

  • Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail Comprehensive Plan

    The Comprehensive Plan will develop administrative and management objectives and practices and desired conditions for the Pacific Northwest National Scenic Trail on public lands in Forest Service Regions 1 and Regions 6.

On Hold

  • Goonies Gold Exploration Project

    The proposed project would include the excavation of 10 exploratory trenches, 20' x 20', on the claim, the removal of the excavated material to an off-site location for testing and then backfilling and reclaiming each trench once testing is complete.

  • IPNF Noxious Weed Treatment Project

    Management of non-native invasive plant species utilizing herbicides, biological control agents, cultural and mechanical methods for weed control.

  • Red Ives Confluence Project

    The project would replace a bridge, remove a road and bridge to improve habitat for Bull Trout

  • Snowstorm Drilling Exploration Project

    Daycon Minerals proposes to drill/core 4 holes on their mining claims on the Coeur d'Alene River Ranger District, using low-impact, environmentally friendly drilling techniques. Expected timeframe for operations is 3 months.

Cancelled

  • Upper Lochsa Land Exchange

    The Forest Service (FS) is considering a land exchange with Western Pacific Timber. The FS would receive approx. 40,000 acres of WPT land in the upper Lochsa River drainage and WPT would recieve an equal value of Forest Service land in north Idaho.
